Points not coming into PM from ADAMS?

Yesterday I recieved a call where the issue was that two points somebody created in ADAMS weren’t coming down into Wintrack PM. Now normally, when you create something in ADAMS it should come down into Wintrack PM that way you can start making the rounds and handing out the work. In this case it wasn’t.

I was able to investigate the issue and found out there was no point type associated with these particular assets. That was the cause of it, because if Wintrack PM doesn’t see a point type it doesn’t recognize it as a point!

If you ever run across this issue be sure to check that it has a point type in ADAMS, and if it doesn’t or if it doesn’t let you give it one call us here at Techincal Support for a quick fix.

Eliminate Data Loss!

To eliminate data loss, you must back up on a regular basis; ideally, this would be done daily. We recommend you back up often. It is preferred that data is backed up to a network or external drive.During the backup, the software creates a zip file to a specified location with a date and time stamp. WinZip should be installed on all PC’s running our software. If it were necessary to restore data, only the most recent zip file would be required. Restoring data from a back up is performed by a Mintek Support Technician.The process for backing up the system is outlined below.

1. Open Menu item: File–> Utilities –> Backup Data Files

2. Use the Select… button to open a Browse screen for your location selection (Please consult your system administrator to determine the best external location for your backup files.)

3. Select OK after browsing to the specified location.Each time you perform a back up of your Data, a new zip file is created with a date and time stamp. Old back ups can be deleted as necessary and the most recent should be saved

4. If SETS make sure to check Include History File. Select OK after browsing to the specified location

Save Debug File after Transactions fail

Debugs are important for Support to troubleshoot why Transactions are not updating to the Billing System. If your Transaction fails and you receive an Exception, find the Debug file and copy it to your desktop so Support can review. This will need to be done immediately after your Transaction fails as the debug refreshes after every Host Update. So if you are pressed for time and cannot call Support, at least you will have the debug saved for Support to review later on. Below are steps to follow on how to locate and save your debug file to your desktop:

 

1)     Double click on the “My Computer” icon located on your Windows Desktop

 

2)     Browse to your C:\Program Files\Wintrack\SETS directory

 

3)     Find the text file titled Debug-XXXXX.txt (X’s being your Workstation Key number)

 

4)     Right-click and select Copy, then Paste to your Desktop

 

System Maintenance – Prevent Corruption!!

Reindexing and Packing your database helps to prevent corruptions

WinTrack offers a Reindex and Packing Utility that you can perform to prevent future corruptions in the database. It is recommended to use this Utility at least once a week; the time it takes to complete depends on the amount of History you have in the system. It is recommended to start the Utility after everyone has completed their transactions and you have some down time. Below are instructions on how to perform a Reindex and a Pack of the database:

 

 

Reindexing

1)     In the software go to File à Reindex/Pack tables

 

2)     Under What action would you like to perform select Reindex then click the double arrows pointing to the right, above the application button. This will move everything over to tables selected.

 

3)     Click ok, then click Yes to continue. If you receive any messages click ok through them. They are normal because we are reindexing while the software is running.

 

Packing

1)    In the software go to File à Reindex/Pack tables

 

2)     Under What action would you like to perform select Pack then click the double arrows pointing to the right, above the application button. This will move everything over to tables selected.

 

3)     Click ok, then click Yes to continue. If you receive any messages click ok through them. They are normal because we are packing while the software is running.
